Being pregnant is one of the most incredible, wonderful and life changing events a woman can experience. Our bodies are amazing at adapting and accommodating to the huge changes and demands that are placed on our bodies during pregnancy. For some these can cause changes to bladder and bowel function and for others, aches and pains around our back, hips and pelvis and It is very common for women to report conditions such as pelvic girdle pain. This CAN be treated and I aim to minimise and alleviate these stresses to allow for a positive and enjoyable pregnancy where you can head into your baby’s birth and early weeks feeling confident, positive, strong and well informed.

Pregnancy physiotherapy can help treat and support Pelvic girdle pain, pelvic floor concerns, postural and movement changes, sciatica, mid back pain, bladder and bowel concerns as well as preparation for birth.
What is Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)?
Pelvic girdle pain is pain or discomfort found anywhere within or around the pelvic area during pregnancy. It can be at the front of your pubic bone, hips, lower back or inner thigh and present in 1:5 women. It usually affects daily activities such as turning in bed, walking or single leg activities.
Can Physiotherapy help pelvic girdle pain?

Yes.  Physiotherapy can be very successful in treating PGP and reducing pain and symptoms.  Through hands on techniques and treatment, exercises, advice and strategies to move with ease, PGP can be very well treated.

    Is pregnancy Physiotherapy safe?

    Yes.  All treatment is bespoke to you for your needs and adapted to your stage of pregnancy ensuring comfort and safely.  I ensure I provide up to date evidence based physiotherapy.

        Do I need an internal examination during pregnancy?

        No.  Internal examinations are often offered and can be carried out after 12 weeks gestation however this would be with full consent and only if appropriate for you.

            Your comfort, dignity and consent are central to every appointment.  All assessments and treatments are discussed with you, you are always in control and I will tailor treatment to your individual needs.
