Post Natal & Mummy MOT

Post natal

Most women who have had a baby will experience some degree of weakness to their tummy and/or pelvic floor muscles which may lead to pelvic or back dysfunction and poor core control. Some women appear to ‘bounce back’ with their tummy shape and recovery whereas others are left feeling very disconnected, frustrated or even shocked with their recovery. However your baby was delivered, either vaginally or via cesarian, with or without complication, you have still made, grown and delivered a baby within you and your body deserves the upmost in post natal care.

Seeing a Womens Health Physiotherapist in the post-natal period to assess and guide recovery has shown to reduce pelvic health concerns and issues later on in life.

I can help you with and treat the following common conditions and issues:

  • Back, pelvic, pubic and coccyx pain,
  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Bladder and bowel problems such as leaking, urgency and constipation
  • Perineal discomfort including vulval varicosities/varicose veins
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Birth preparation
  • Exercise advice and modifications
  • Pelvic floor rehabilitation
  • General aches and pains, postural advice and overall wellness during your pregnancy

FAQs

What is Postnatal physiotherapy?

Postnatal physiotherapy supports your recovery after birth, helping you feel confident in your body again. If it’s in the immediate months flowing birth or many years since you delivered ,private physiotherapy appointments in Oxted, Lingfield and Reigate are tailored to your birth experience and recovery goals.  Specific concerns over bladder or bowel function or abdominal or scar healing and recovery are address and treated appropriately.

    What is a Mummy MOT?

A bespoke, comprehensive post natal assessment, usually carried out from 6 weeks post birth  focusing on pelvic floor function, abdominal muscle recovery, scar assessment, posture and exercises to enable a safe return exercise and activity

Do I need postnatal physiotherapy if I feel well

All postnatal women will benefit from a postnatal physiotherapy regardless of how you have delivered your baby (vaginal or c-section) and regardless if you have any complaints or concerns.  Physiotherapy can identify underlying problems and reduce the risk of future problems such as incontinence, prolapse or abdominal diastasis.

Will you be able to assess, diagnose and treat an abdominal diastasis?

Yes.  Pelvic health physios can fully assess for Diastasis Rectus Abdominus (DRA) or tummy gap and with a bespoke programme  can aid recovery and promote healing of these muscles.

Can you help after a caesarean birth?

Yes.  Post natal physiotherapy or a mummy mot is just as important after a c-section with the addition of scar assessment and scar mobility work as well as ensuring a safe return to exercise.

How soon after birth should I book a Mummy MOT?

Usually anytime from 6 weeks post birth is an ideal time however if there are specific concerns before this time I am always happy to see you before.  Conversely it it never too late and can be done many months or even years post birth.

                            Do you offer treatment packages?

Yes.  I offer a scar package which offers 3x 450min scar work sessions  as well as a Mummy Mot plus x1 follow up package.

Your comfort, dignity and consent are central to every appointment.  All assessments and treatments are discussed with you, you are always in control and I will tailor treatment to your individual needs.
